=National cathedral =

by Jose Manuel Ruiz Lozano The National Cathedral is beautiful and is the sixth largest cathedral in the world. It is considered to be a house of worship honoring all faiths of the world but Christianity is original home. Its actual name is the Cathedral Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. This was changed to national cathedral because it represented the USA church for the history it has and the strong value of importance the Americans see in it.

The cathedral is located at the corner of Massachusetts and Wisconsin avenues in North West Washington D.C., on mount St. Alban. It has a highly detailed stone wall and it is filled with windows. Its design is similar as a castle. It is big and very tall, defined by an English gothic style. This impressive architecture contains exquisite and beautiful sculptures, wood carving, gargoyles, mosaics, and more than 200 stained glass windows. Its Gloria tower is the highest in all Washington dc which leads you to a wonderful view of the city. The cathedral lectures and educational programs reflect an intellectually probing, generous spirited Christianity rooted in the Episcopal tradition and is open for people of all faiths. Its purpose is to encourage your spirit, engage your mind, and deepen your understanding of today’s world. They worship, pray, mourn the passing, leaders, and confront the pressing moral and social classes. The cathedral is a spiritual resource for USA nation. It is indispensable ministry for people of different perspectives and faiths. It is a sacred place for our country in times of celebration, crisis, and sorrow. It was established since 1907, as a spiritual center to unite Americans to worship. The national cathedral has contributed with national memorial services and celebrations to USA. The celebrations for the end of World War 1 and 2 were in the national church. They were also state funerals for two presidents, Dwight Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan.

This wonderful church has a lot of unique features. I think the national cathedral was important to emphasize the idea of keeping the religious faith and make believers see beyond the knowledge to become stronger in their thoughts. Apparently the church does a good job at promoting interfaith usage and activities to make more people join. It has featured such diverse and noted valuable speakers as Bishop Desmond Tutu, the Dalai Lama and, just a few days before he was assassinated, Dr. Martin Luther King. There are tours in the church which I recommend future generations to see because it was informative, interesting, and entertaining. The national cathedral teaches you another perspective to live in harmony, to cooperate, and accept others. I was impressed a lot in its unique and creative architecture which had wonderful colored windows. I hope I get to enter to it again in a future because it really isn’t just another church; it is special because of its historical meaning.
